Matthew is a well-known art critic and broadcaster who has written and presented many TV documentaries, including 'This is Modern Art', broadcast on Channel 4 in 2000. Think of him as the Stuart Maconie of the art world. He also collaborates on making paintings with his wife, the mosaicist Emma Biggs.
In June 2002 Matthew took part in 'Live in Your Forest'. He chaired 'Open Air, Open Discussion, Open Mike', a debate about the role of the artist as interpreter of the landscape, and the past, present and future of Grizedale. Other invited speakers were Mark Wallinger, Tom O'Sullivan, Joanne Tatham, Richard Harris, David Thorp and Adam Sutherland.
