Steve Hollingsworth works with neon and video, transforming every day objects into a spectacle. Earlier projects saw him incorporating refrigeration systems into his work. At the core of his practice are ideas of time, colour and light which are re-worked in different contexts and places.
For Grizedale, during his 2000 residency, Steve pursued his line of enquiry into the possibilities of light within the forest, which included ‘Neon Rustique’ – a large neon drawing mounted on a frame of unsawn wood replicated the form of a billboard and could be seen by walkers from the Old Man of Coniston, much to their disapproval.
